Manchester United host high-flying Burnley at Old Trafford today and after conceding in injury time to draw 2-2 with Leicester City last weekend, United fans aren’t holding out for much success on Boxing Day.

Jose Mourinho’s men are trailing leaders Manchester City by 13 points at the half-way stage of the Premier League season and are still reeling from their injury-time Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Bristol City last Wednesday.

Mourinho has understandably come up against a lot of criticism in recent weeks as United presumably switch their focus from trying to win the Premier League to ensuring they finish as runners-up come May, and the faith of the Old Trafford faithful is beginning to drain somewhat.

Man United sent a match build-up tweet on Tuesday morning but their fans across the world reacted with pessimism as they replied with pessimism.

Their opponents, Burnley, are enjoying a fantastic season so far as they head in to 2018 in 7th position and just three points off the top four, so United fans are probably right not to expect a convincing victory, but the negativity is pretty overwhelming.

However, Man United are the most successful Premier League side when it comes to Boxing Day fixtures, so they should perhaps be a lot more positive ahead of Tuesday’s 3pm kick-off.
